Back to garden musings…

This season I am planting from seed!
Shishito peppers, pimientos del padron, fairytale eggplants, various determinate tomatoes (early girls, yellow ‘tumbling toms’ and ‘sweetheart of the patio’), peas and various strangely colored and oddly shaped carrots. Several of my perennial herbs also started coming back (thyme and tarragon), while I’m replanting mint, chives and rosemary, basil, parsley. This year I’m going to plant oregano because I finally tasted a dish that I liked with oregano in it (the chicken al forno at Jonathan Waxman’s Barbuto had a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of chopped oregano, tarragon and parsley.)
Speaking of Barbuto, also had an amazing shaved cauliflower crudo with fried yuca chips, toasted walnuts, parsley and lemon vinaigrette—delicious! Today I took a cauliflower head to the mandoline and copied the dish for lunch today, so easy! We washed it down with a little gen mai cha.
